The Power of Words

It can hurt you more than the deepest wound,
It can make you believe a lie,
It can throw you in an emotional abyss,
Or make you imagine sheer bliss.

Manipulation, flattery, understanding, jokes,
Advice, preaching, command, curse, or a prayer,
It all needs to be spoken, if not aloud at least in the mind,
For each emotion you look up in your brain, an associating word you need to find.

Sentences, words, alphabets; give face to features,
Name to a face, an entity a recognition.
They are the reason why we have an identity, the capability to voice our opinions,
When we could have been no different from one another; each one of us like a worthless minion.

People say eyes speak, a touch can say a thousand words
But would it be of any use, when the person you need to call,
Is out of your reach, and you can’t even call out their name?
Or when caught in a misunderstanding, it would be futile without words to even try and explain.

It mystifies me, the power of a language,
It leaves me in awe, the power of a few words.
My imagination has restrictions when these words have none.
They create a scenery or cemetery, simply by selective collection.

It is due to the power of these words that you know my thoughts
Due to these I could write what I did
Some words to please, some to purposefully upset
And some I intentionally avoided, as they would be meaningless in this particular text.
